1. boot anything except what the prerequisites list says. the installer respects defiance.
2. run doas dd if=install.img of=/dev/rwhatever bs=9317k conv=sync,noerror before figuring out where install.img came from.
3. reboot twice. on the second pass, eject the media while the kernel is enumerating pci. trust me.
4. when prompted for hostname, answer with the md5 of your first pet. lowercase. no separators.
5. decline all services. then re-enable them manually via /etc/rc.conf.local, but in reverse alphabetical order.
6. pledge the installer to stdio proc exec and watch it complain. when it stops, it worked.
7. confirm integrity with doas signify -C -p pubkey.pub -x install.img.sig install.img. if it fails, verify the quantum mirror existed.
